Ray Nagin, remember him? He was the incompetent Democratic (redundant) Mayor of New Orleans who botched the evacuation of the city during Hurricane Katrina. If you don’t remember him that’s understandable, there was a Republican in the Oval Office at the time to place all the blame on.
Nagin managed to stay in office after the hurricane which was good for him, because of all that federal money flowing in to “rebuild” the city. That was bad for New Orleans because Nagin was your standard Louisiana Democrat; a crook. And as all that cash flowed into the city Nagin made sure he got his through bribes and kickbacks.
Nagin was just indicted on 21 counts of corruption. It’s amazing how long ago Katrina was and yet the Feds are just now getting enough evidence together to indict this guy. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, since it took then years to indict, convict, and finally imprison New Orleans Congressman William Jefferson, and they had him flying down to New Orleans after the disaster in order to pull $90,000 in cash out of his freezer.
There’s got to be a common thread (besides being Democrats, and crooks) that explains the unbelievable delays in prosecution. BUT, I just can’t put my finger on it…
Louisiana! With the likes of Edwin Edwards, Ray Nagin, William Jefferson, and Mary Landrieu… Cajuns just aren’t happy unless they have a couple Democrats constantly stealing elections and robbing them blind. Too bad Bush isn’t still in office; we could blame him again…
