Well, I’ll say it again. The left (especially those in office) are interested in “appearance” over “substance”. As long as you appear to be responsible, moral, or honest, then your goal has been achieved. Motives and actual results are for chumps. Luckily for the left; this is easy to do when you have the Main Stream Media in your back pocket.
Case in point. The Benghazi debacle. The Obama Administration at ALL levels was grossly incompetent and allowed four Americans to die on 9/11/2012. The administration then initiated an orchestrated whitewash of the incident to cover their ass during an election and perpetuate the myth that “Al Qaeda is on its heels”. This was a scandal far worse than Watergate ever was (people died)… but… the Main Stream Media did its job and few citizens know squat about the events or the coverup.
Now Obama wants to try to put this behind them so they offer up a few “high level” scape goats as penance. Back on Dec. 20th, Jay Carney informed the media lap dogs that the internal investigation had concluded that security had been “grossly inadequate”. AND “Accountability has been brought to bear with regard to four individuals, who are very senior.” The word resignation was floated around… The MSM reported that Eric Boswell, assistant secretary of state in charge of security, had resigned along with three others.
See, the system works. Well… it works in that there was an “APPEARANCE” of accountability.
- Let’s look at the substance:
- Eric Boswell did resign… his post as assistant secretary… and simply took on other duties at the state department. You can bet he didn’t really lose any pay or much else in the “accountability” process.
- And the “three others”… they were found to have “performance inadequacies” which may or may not have been documented in some kind of employment record, but there was no “willful misconduct”… so there were no real consequence. No resignations, no nothing.
So the total “accountability” for Benghazi in which four people lost their lives? A (one) bureaucrat changed desks. That’s it.
But that’s OK… because Obama managed to get the appearance of accountability out there.
The New York Times, CNN, the Washington Post, ABC, CBS… (et. al.) all reported on the “Accountability… brought to bear… to four individuals, who are very senior.” They reported on the “resignation” of Eric Boswell, assistant secretary of state in charge of security; as spoon fed to them by the White House. They reported the appearance as instructed… But did they ever inform anyone of the substance? Not one word.
