Concept - Choice, PathI heard a really good quote this morning that I thought I would share.

“Genetics are your tendency, not your destiny.” — David Meinz, Nutritionist

The speaker was talking about weight, and diet, and thus the tendency for many of us to be overweight… which applies to me. But the quote, I think, applies to many, many aspects of life. Today we are told that genetics are everything to the point that it is used as an excuse for all kinds of behavior. We’ve reached a point where we equate genetic tendency to something as tangible as race.

This is done in the name of creed while pimped as science. The intellectual dishonesty required is staggering; yet we practice this to the point of not only fooling others, but also ourselves.

It all comes down to the question and concept of free will. Do we choose to rise and take up arms against the slings and arrows of whatever is thrown at us, no matter the source? OR… Do we choose to allow the current of the world to carry us as it will, because that’s really where we wanted to go anyway?

If I’m overweight, or drink to much, or have violent tendencies, or do a myriad of other things… it’s because I choose to do them no matter what direction nature or nurture prod me.
